I just discovered a new online slide community SlideShare.net. I’d describe the site as a cross between Flickr and YouTube. It’s a file sharing community which allows users to upload their slide shows to share with others. Like YouTube and Flickr you can tag, comment, embed and share your glorious presentations with the world.

The Good

Slides that are uploaded are are converted into pictures which use a simple interface to navigate through presentations. The site makes it easy to share your slides by sending links to others via email or by embedding the actual viewer into your web page or blog. Like most social networking sites users can comment, tag, and share with with others.

The Bad

On the down side SlideShare proves just how bad most presentations are. A quick scan of decks on the site revealed just about every common mistake most people make in slide shows, bad design, bad color, poor graphics, etc… Another thing that became quite obvious was the sheeple mentalityis rampant. The prolific “2.0″ was slapped on so many decks it wasn’t funny and that there were numerous rip-offs of the presentation style used by Dick Hardt in his OSCON 2005 Keynote Speech.

The Future of SlideShare

I find the idea of the site intriguing and I can see the value in it’s design. SlideShare offers a simple mechanism for sharping slides with others in a format that should be intuitive for anybody familiar with 2.0. Hey I might as well be like everybody else jump on the 2.0 everything bandwagon
